2010 Lost in the Rocks and Trees
With the race just over a week away, it is time to touch base on the final plans/preparations for the event. Things are coming together nicely, and if you have any questions after reading this, please send me an email!
    1. It is confirmed, with a special thanks to Cheapskates we will be giving away another JAMIS bike. This will be given away as a draw prize, so everyone has an equal opportunity to head home with this awesome prize!
    2. Please be sure your bike is in good working order before the race. If you are not an accomplished mechanic, take it to your local bike shop for a full tune up. Every year people finish the race with brake pads that are completely worn away – and the unmistakable sound of metal on metal. Please have your brake pads checked for wear and/or simply replace them with new pads. The old pads can always be put back on after the race if there is still some life in them!
    3. The route for the race has been posted on the website, or you can get it from this link. There has been a minor course change since the map was created, but 99% of it is still the same. Although this will be a bit hard to read, the course is as follows:
Short Course: From the Start/finish to CP1, CP1 to CP2, CP2 to CP3, CP3 to CP4 with a turnaround at CP4. From CP4 return to CP3 and then head North to the Finish (62 km).
The long course follows the same course, minus the turnaround at CP4 so that those people head through town before heading back to CP3, then North to CP2. From CP2 they will do another round of the major loop to CP3. From CP3 they will head North to the finish. (112 km)
    4. This year we are putting in a special “choice” for you to make. There is a new “interesting” hill, on a 1 km long trail. You will have the option of going up the hill (which will be something to tell the grand kids!) or going around the hill. Going around the hill will be much longer, approximately 2 km.
    5. Please support our sponsors!!!
    6. Although we will have water on the course, it is important to remember that this is basically an unsupported race. Please bring basic tools and the knowledge to use them. Also plan your food, as you will be on the course for a long time and will need nutrition. Water is expected to be available at CP1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. The majority of the water will be at CP3, so please take advantage of it. There will be a limited amount of fruit (apples, oranges and bananas) available on the course.
    7. People camping at Nature’s Harmony – There will be an area with tables that you can use for eating etc. You will likely not have a picnic table beside your tent. If you are able to, you may want bring a small surface that you can use as a table.
    8. Cheapskates will have mechanics at CP2, while Northriders will be manning CP3.
    9. Again, please support our sponsors!!!!!!!
