Results

As a result of a number of little things conspiring against me (results sheets accidentally picked up by a volunteer, computer issues that required a motherboard swap and a bluetooth keyboard that is not happy) I won’t be able to get the results posted before this weekend. I will do my best to get them up before that, but unfortunately cant promise anything until I get windows reinstalled on my computer.

Registration Closing…

Online registration will close at roughly 12 noon on Friday. I will not have internet access after leaving for the race, and will not be able to respond to email either as there is no cell access from the race venue. If you are going to register, please do so now and save us the work at the start area.

Pre-Race Details

Lost in the Rocks and Trees
Presented By
- Opus
There are a couple of  last minute items to mention before the race day
1. Please have your bike in perfect working order before arriving at the event. It is not fun waiting for a truck to come get you from 30 km back in the bush. Also it is best to arrive with new brake pads (either disc or v-brake) as the course is known for being very hard on brakes.
2. Please plan your food for the length of time you think you will be on the trail. There will be limited availability of apples, oranges and bananas – the rest is up to you! There will be water at checkpoints 1, 2 and 3. There will also be mechanical support at Checkpoints 2 (Cheapskates) and 3 (North Riders).
3. It is still possible to camp at Nature’s Harmony. If you decide to camp at the last minute, you can pay for your camping when you arrive.
4. Directions to the race venue are posted at http://lostintherocks.com/directions
5. Opus will be on hand with a few demo bikes for you to try out. Take an Opus Stakh (full suspension) or an Opus Fhast(26″ wheel hard tail) for a ride.
6. If you are seen riding on the course by a race official without your helmet, you will be disqualified, will not have results posted and will not be eligible for draw prizes. Do not remove your helmet during the race!
7. It is possible to register the morning of the race, but please encourage your friends to pre-register if at all possible. If you know people registering on race day, please have them bring exact change or cheque made out to Lost in the Rocks and Trees.
8. Race Check in will open at approximately 7:45 am. At this time you will get your t-shirt (if you registered on or before July 1) and race plate. Check in will close approximately 15 minutes before the start of each race category (8:45 for the 110 km course, 9:45 for the 62 km course and 10:45 for the 30 km course).

30 km Course

Last weekend we went out for a ride, and GPS’d the NEW 30 KM COURSE. It weighed in just a shade under 30, but still includes the notorious trail 666 (which last weekend was rather ‘wet’). Attached below are the Garmin details.

Trail work update

We spent some of our long weekend developing the first single track trails for the Lost in the Rocks and Trees. All told there are about 25 man hours into the trail already, but there are likely another 50 or so to go before it is race day ready. We developed a relationship with a new fan of the sport, who spent a few hours following us around. Over his (her??) right shoulder you can see a small piece of the new trail. It is not done yet, but should be a fun rip when it is. I’ll keep you posted!

Trail work begins…

Well, we are working on a nice change for the race course for this year. For the first time, the Lost in the Rocks and Trees will include some single track. For those of you that raced last year, we are replacing much of the Snake Creek Rd section with flowing single track through pine plantations. We have a lot of work to do between now and race day, and I’ve attached a picture of the entry into the new trail. At the moment the trail consists of some flagging tape and some mental maps……more to come in the future!

Support Local Trail Development

The mandate of the Lost in the Rocks and Trees has been to provide a venue for development of the sport of mountain biking within the “Near North”. The major framework for this has been the annual race, which has now been in operation for sixteen years. Beyond this, we have purchased a leaf blower for cleaning local trails, and we are now offering learn to ride clinics through Cor Maximus and Algonquin High School. This spring we have been given the opportunity to support local trail development in a big way, by becoming sponsors of the Laurier Woods Conservation Area. If you think riding, trail development, access to outdoor areas and protecting wetlands is as important as we do, then please considering going to the Laurier Woods is Growing page and sponsoring some of their newly acquired land within the City of North Bay.
