This following message just came in from Murielle, the 2011 winner of the Opus Fhast Carbon Hardtail frame that was given away by Opus and the Lost in the Rocks and Trees. Opus is once again the sponsor of the 2012 version of the race. Sign up now for your shot at some incredible prizes, and an awesome adventure. What stories will you make at the 2012 Lost in the Rocks and Trees?
Hi everyone,
As the lucky winner of the Opus bike frame in 2011, I thought I should follow up with the aftermath story. Through series of fortunes, wining that cool prize developed in the most unexpected but awesome way.
We had a great time up in Mattawa. We were there with friends to ride and celebrate my husbands 40th birthday. I loved the race, had fun all along. The venue of the event and mostly the gorgeous site where we were welcome to camp rounded it up as my favorite race last summer. It was an awesome weekend. Cherry on the cake…obviously: I won the frame!!!!!
Mark and I had been joking all summer with trash talk as if we each were convinced we were going to win the bike. We teased each other about having to give it up to the other if the size didn’t fit. It became an on going joke but we never really thought one of us may actually win it…I did. It turned out to be way too big for me, unfortunately it was also too big for Mark. As it was the last one left with Opus, it also couldn’t be switched. I had a few offers on the Opus Fhast, it was obviously not going to be hard to pass it over, but I wanted to think about what to trade it for. I wanted it to be a treat. Sell it, get money….sure, but, for me, it looses the fun factor of wining a prize.
When we got home, I posted a picture of the bike on Facebook along with a comment about having to figure out what to do with it.
Unbelievably, within minutes I had a response from a mountain bike/sled dog racer in Maine who had been considering getting an Opus Fhast; her husband had an eye on it. The size was right. It also turned out she had what I most wanted a the moment. Other than sports, I love dogs. Even though I have a lot of fun participating in human race events, the best of the best for me is to ride, ski, run with dogs. I race in skijor, bikejor, canicross events, so I have sprint sled dogs. Actually…I had just lost my racing pal…. So you guessed it? She had puppies, and not any puppies, probably the best breeding in North America for what I do with my dogs. Think of your dream bike and that is what those pups were for me as sled dogs. Deal done, I traded the frame for a couple pups. It didn’t take any of the sadness away from loosing Marvin but it did give this soothing feeling that fate had led this. Everything was so right; the right dogs, the right bike, the right time…
In September, we did our last road trip of the season down to Maine to go pick up our puppies and deliver the frame. We also took advantage of the trip and also hit a few trails with our new American friends.
This is how “M’Opus” and “M.E. Fhast” joined our M’Team (cheesy…all our names first letter is M). The pups are awesome, they are as sweet as can be and very promising runners. They are now what I have the most precious. There is no doubt that I was the biggest winner at the 2011 “Opus Lost in the Rocks and Trees”.
See you there this summer,
Murielle and Mark,
with M’Opus and M.E.Fhast
