We spent some of our long weekend developing the first single track trails for the Lost in the Rocks and Trees. All told there are about 25 man hours into the trail already, but there are likely another 50 or so to go before it is race day ready. We developed a relationship with a new fan of the sport, who spent a few hours following us around. Over his (her??) right shoulder you can see a small piece of the new trail. It is not done yet, but should be a fun rip when it is. I’ll keep you posted!

Well, we are working on a nice change for the race course for this year. For the first time, the Lost in the Rocks and Trees will include some single track. For those of you that raced last year, we are replacing much of the Snake Creek Rd section with flowing single track through pine plantations. We have a lot of work to do between now and race day, and I’ve attached a picture of the entry into the new trail. At the moment the trail consists of some flagging tape and some mental maps……more to come in the future!

The mandate of the Lost in the Rocks and Trees has been to provide a venue for development of the sport of mountain biking within the “Near North”. The major framework for this has been the annual race, which has now been in operation for sixteen years. Beyond this, we have purchased a leaf blower for cleaning local trails, and we are now offering learn to ride clinics through Cor Maximus and Algonquin High School. This spring we have been given the opportunity to support local trail development in a big way, by becoming sponsors of the Laurier Woods Conservation Area. If you think riding, trail development, access to outdoor areas and protecting wetlands is as important as we do, then please considering going to the Laurier Woods is Growing page and sponsoring some of their newly acquired land within the City of North Bay.
